As a structured rotation program which produced its 2023-24 graduates this summer, “Enter” provide an opportunity for the students who earned the right to be included in the program to familiarize themselves with Enerjisa Distribution Companies and electricity distribution sector as well as discovering their own fields of interests. Great deal of interest for the term of 2024-25

The program steamed ahead to prepare for the new season as schools will be opening in a short while and started to receive applications for the term of 2024-25. The program received over 8,000 applications from 169 universities and 350 candidates were evaluated by video interviews after elaborating assessments. Among the young people who will be included in a 9-month rotation process in three different fields, such as Electricity-Distribution, Functional Units and Data Management in the core of the company, 114 of them applied from Ayedaş region, 166 from Başkent EDAŞ region and 70 from Toroslar EDAŞ region for “Enter” internship program.

The project, which is a first in the industry and developed to support the career development of young people, has reached more than 8,300 students and branch teachers. The project, which has been ongoing in Istanbul, Hatay, Mersin, Adana, Gaziantep, Ankara, Bartın, Karabük, Çankırı, Kastamonu and Kırıkkale since 2018, covers the entire journey of energy from the point where the responsibility of the electricity distribution companies begins, until it reaches houses of consumers. The training also includes occupational health and safety training, which is one of the prominent issues in the electricity distribution industry.

The theater play, “Küsmesin Yıldızlar,” completed its Anatolia tour and reached 10,000 children.

The theater play titled “Küsmesin Yıldızlar” of the internationally award-winning "I Protect My Energy" project, which was launched by Enerjisa Enerji 14 years ago, was on stage for students. While the goal of the play is to raise awareness of children on using energy resources efficiently and energy saving for a better future, the play also instills in students a love of theater.

Organized in collaboration with Bahçeşehir Private High Schools and Doğa Private High Schools, located in Istanbul Anatolian Side, Zonguldak, Kastamonu, Ankara, Mersin, Adana and Gaziantep which are within the areas of responsibility of Enerjisa Distribution Companies -Başkent EDAŞ, Ayedaş and Toroslar EDAŞ- and with the participation of public schools, the theater play was staged 30 times in 1 month to 10,000 children.

Record-breaking participation in the Story Contest, “A Better Future”

Held for the 3^rd time by Enerjisa Enerji as part of the ‘I Protect My Energy’ project, the story contest, which was organized among 3^rd and 4^th grade students throughout Türkiye, witnessed a record-breaking participation this year. Children who participated in the competition with joyful and creative stories got the opportunity to improve their writing skills and also push the limits of their creativity.

 Speaking about the "I Protect My Energy" social responsibility project and the 30-day tour of the children’s theatre play, “Küsmesin Yıldızlar,” Ebru Taşcıoğlu, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Capabilities at Enerjisa Enerji, stated as follows: ''Corporate Social Responsibility and Social Investments are indispensable components of our understanding of sustainability at Enerjisa Enerji. Thus, we are proud to raise awareness of our children on energy efficiency and saving via our 'I Protect My Energy' project, which we have been carrying out for 14 years. • The preparations for elections were completed in electricity distribution infrastructure in 14 cities, particularly in Ankara, Adana, and Istanbul Anatolian Side.
• Generators were placed at critical locations throughout the elections while scheduled outages on the election day were canceled.
• Electricity distribution field workers, whose posts were determined, were put on full alert with the necessary tools and equipment.

Serving 22 million users in 14 cities in 3 electricity distribution regions in Türkiye, Enerjisa Distribution Companies continue to put efforts to provide continuous and high-quality electricity with the measures taken for Local Elections to be conducted on Sunday, March 31, 2024.

Enerjisa Distribution Companies completed their maintenance works, initiated weeks before the elections for the critical locations in Ankara, Bartın, Çankırı, Karabük, Kastamonu, Kırıkkale and Zonguldak with Başkent EDAŞ, in Istanbul Anatolian Side with Ayedaş, in Adana, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Osmaniye and Mersin with Toroslar EDAŞ.

Determining the points at which energy supply security was critical during the elections process in coordination with the Supreme Electoral Council, the company completed the checks and maintenances in the electricity distribution grid elements such as Measurement Cabins with Breakers, substations, panels, and lighting facilities.

Taking special measures at 502 critical points, particularly at province and district election boards, vote collection centers, party general centers, Enerjisa Distribution Companies will continue its activities in coordination with the Supreme Electoral Council, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, governorships, district governorships and law enforcement officers in order to enable a smooth election process, from the early morning hours on the election day to the moment when vote counting will be completed.

• Scheduled outages canceled, 5559 personnel on full alert

Enerjisa Distribution Companies also canceled the scheduled outages, which are required to provide a better electricity service under normal circumstances, during the local elections to be carried out country-wide on March 31, 2024.

All executive levels of Enerjisa Distribution Companies will be on the watch during the election day while the posts of 5559 personnel, 1956 teams and 1811 vehicles were determined for them to be on full alert on the field and against all scenarios on the election day in order to provide a reliable and transparent process for the elections.

• Generators and Mobile SCADA Center kept ready

More than 500 generators with various capacities will be kept ready for operation in the responsibility areas in Başkent EDAŞ, Ayedaş and Toroslar EDAŞ regions to provide continuous electricity during the elections.

Against the risk of experiencing problems for any reason in the SCADA centers, where remote control and checks of electricity distribution grids are provided, Mobile SCADA control centers, which were developed and put into service for the first time in the world by Enerjisa Distribution Companies, will be kept ready with their operators.

• “Election” measures in the earthquake zone

Measures have been taken at the responsibility area of Toroslar EDAŞ, which covers electricity distribution in 5 of the 11 cities affected by the devastating earthquakes occurred on February 6, 2023, particularly in Nurdağı and Islahiye districts in Hatay and Gaziantep which were severely affected due to the earthquake.

Having achieved an investment of 1.9 billion TL to reach the values just before the earthquakes hit the electricity distribution grid since the day of the disaster, Enerjisa Distribution Companies completed the necessary checks for the continuity of energy supply with containers that will provide services in the region during the election process.

• Real-time checks at critical points

Video Confirmation System, put into service as a first in the sector by Enerjisa Distribution Companies for Occupational Health and Safety in Türkiye, will also be used to provide security at the critical points during the election process.

Video transmission devices will be watching the security of the critical points in this system, which enables confirmation of the center by transmitting live images of the work stages of the workers in the field during the electricity distribution activities classified as very hazardous.

Failures that may arise will be immediately repaired by field workers on full alert, which may be tracked with live connections transferred to the center.

In addition, all information, and requests, particularly the outage notifications coming from the citizens will be followed up through Call Centers at 186 during the election process, and all necessary actions will be taken to provide information in real-time through Enerjisa Distribution Companies websites and social media accounts.

In charge of the electricity distribution operations in 5 of the 11 cities affected by the earthquake which occurred on February 6, 2023 and was considered as the disaster of the century, Toroslar EDAŞ has sustained its intense efforts initiated by the Company since the first day of the earthquake, particularly in Hatay and Gaziantep, throughout the year with a budget of TL 1.9 billion.

Being one of the three companies of Enerjisa Distribution Companies that provides electricity distribution services to more than 22 million people in Türkiye, together with Başkent EDAŞ and Ayedaş, Toroslar EDAŞ put all its efforts and achieved to restore its grid capacity to pre-earthquake levels in the region, especially in Hatay, where the earthquake hit hard.

Toroslar EDAŞ, a survivor of the devastating earthquake itself with its 16 employees who passed away because of the earthquake, destroyed or damaged service buildings, and network components including hundreds of transformers, panels, poles and kilometers of conductors buried under debris in the earthquake-impacted cities, immediately restored the electricity distribution infrastructure of the region, while also trying to heal its wounds.

Besides meeting the post-earthquake requirements of its employees and their families, who put great efforts to continue working in the region, although some of whom lost their homes and most of whom lost their relatives and loved ones, Toroslar EDAŞ also implemented the psychological support programs.

Toroslar Elektrik Dağıtım A.Ş. (Toroslar EDAŞ), the company making the highest amount of investment in its industry in Türkiye for years, has invested TL 1.9 billion as of the first anniversary of the devastating earthquake, as part of its efforts to restore energy in the region since the first day of the earthquake.

In the past one year, Toroslar EDAŞ used its qualified workforce, adequate financial means available and its strong vehicle and material inventory in the best possible way and achieved to exceed the pre-earthquake grid levels in terms of Installed Capacity, High-Voltage and Low-Voltage line lengths in the region.

The company endeavored and put all its efforts into numerous processes, including emergency power cuts for security purposes in the first days, providing energy support for search and rescue, lighting, and communication activities with hundreds of generators, and subsequently distributing energy to tent and container cities, and then providing energy for debris removal and reconstruction of settlements.

Having a service area consisting of six cities including Adana, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Mersin, Osmaniye, Mersin, among which Mersin was the only city that was not affected by the earthquake, Toroslar EDAŞ sustained its investments in Mersin to meet the increasing energy demand due to the rapid increase in population following the earthquake.

The world's largest generator operation after the disaster of the century

Toroslar EDAŞ employees, who rushed to serve once they ensured the safety of their families during the acute period of the earthquake, had used all the generators in the company's inventory to operate the tools and machines in search and rescue operations and provide lighting to continue the efforts at night, as well as carrying out rescue operations from buildings with basket-platform boom vehicles used to reach electric poles.

Teams from other Enerjisa Distribution Companies, Başkent EDAŞ and Ayedaş, departing from Ankara, Kırıkkale, Çankırı, Kastamonu, Karabük, Bartın, Zonguldak and Istanbul, arrived at the region on the first day of the disaster.

Considering the fuel shortage in the region, pick-up trucks were equipped with fuel tanks to ensure continuous refueling of generators. Generators operated in the field were refueled from the tankers sent to the region via these pick-up trucks, and energy was supplied by these generators in locations where the grid was out of operation.

In the following two weeks after the earthquake, the number of field workers in the region increased to 3,167 including the support teams, and the world's largest generator operation managed from a single center was carried out.

As of February 22, 2,472 generators, ranging from 5 kilowatts to 2,000 kilowatts reaching a total capacity of 41,000 kilowatts, were operating in the region, and the energy was continuously supplied by these generators with the established refueling network.

All electricity distribution teams were mobilized and keep putting all their efforts with 198 basket-platform boom vehicles and 969 pick-up trucks.

Antakya Logistics Service Center becomes home to employees and their families

Since Antakya Regional Directorate building of Toroslar EDAŞ was in ruins, and the Logistics Service Center, which is located over a vast area to store the electricity distribution materials of the company, and the containers within had become the new center of operations.

The center was swiftly equipped with containers, a cafeteria, showers, and toilets for support teams to use and hosted Toroslar EDAŞ employees and their families in dozens of containers placed around the center. The company's senior management and engineers also stayed in the containers within this center and managed the operations from a container assigned as the crisis center.

Besides the electricity distribution employees, security forces, search and rescue teams and citizens in the surrounding areas were provided support in the center with all the resources available. Similar centers were established in other districts affected by the earthquake.

Toroslar EDAŞ employees and their families were placed in container cities of 232 and 32 containers in Hatay and Iskenderun, respectively, which are all equipped with the necessary goods. The company also delivered containers to 236 employees who wanted to place them on their private lands such as their own gardens or fields.

Critical communication problem in the acute period resolved with the Disaster Communication System

As the mobile telecommunication infrastructure was down due to the earthquake and communication became one of the prominent issues in the region, the Disaster Communication System, which had been developed by Enerjisa Distribution Companies and kept ready for operation in Ayedaş in the event of an earthquake in Istanbul, was brought to Antakya to enable communication between the teams and the center.

Communication and coordination of Toroslar EDAŞ teams, who were equipped with on-board radios installed on their vehicles, were provided via 3 mobile towers and the communication station mounted at higher locations and powered by solar energy, as per Health and Safety rules to avoid any electrocution. Within days, the majority of the street lighting in Antakya center was re-supplied power.

Thanks to the system used for the first time in the industry, radio frequencies were also provided to other infrastructure institutions and organizations that require communication in the region. On the other hand, mobile telecommunication companies were provided support to install base stations over the lighting poles and these stations were supplied energy to revive mobile telecommunication.

Hatay and Nurdağı and Islahiye, the most affected districts in Gaziantep, focused

In the past one year following the earthquake, Toroslar EDAŞ has spent a total of approximately TL 1.9 billion in Hatay and Gaziantep to continue its investments, as well as maintenance and repair works in the region.

During this period, 146 kilometers of conductors were connected in Hatay and Gaziantep, and 493 transformers having an installed capacity of 556,980 kVA were installed. While 7,869 lighting fixtures were installed by the field teams, 206-kilometer-long high voltage and 352-kilometer-long low voltage lines and underground cables were installed.

During the same period, maintenance and repair activities were carried out for 316 panels, 666 transformers, 4280 fixtures and 228 buildings in Reyhanlı, Kırıkhan, İskenderun, Dörtyol and Hatay City Center, besides 47 panels, 40 transformers, 212 fixtures and 96 buildings in Islahiye and Nurdağı.

Pre-earthquake grid level restored in the region

With the support of its sister companies, Başkent EDAŞ and Ayedaş, Toroslar EDAŞ, one of the Enerjisa Distribution Companies, achieved to exceed the pre-earthquake grid levels thanks to the devoted efforts of 2,150 field employees in Hatay and 184 field employees in Nurdağı and Islahiye districts in Gaziantep despite all the difficulties endured.

Before the earthquake, there were 9,663 transformers –transferred, corporate and private– in Hatay, and 1,995 transformers in Nurdağı and Islahiye districts in Gaziantep. However, thanks to the investments put into operation at a great speed following the earthquake, the number of transformers was increased to 10,297 in Hatay City Merkez, Arsuz, Dörtyol, İskenderun, Kırıkhan and Reyhanlı districts and to 2,094 in Nurdağı and Islahiye districts in Gaziantep.

Thanks to the investments in Hatay, the total installed capacity was increased from 1,429,217 kVA -before the earthquake- to 1,538,347 kVA after the earthquake, the length of the medium voltage line was increased from 6,946 km -before the earthquake- to 7,119 km after the earthquake, and the length of the low voltage line was increased from 15,876 km -before the earthquake- to 13,182 km, completely meeting the electricity consumption requirement in Hatay.

On the other hand, the investments made in the two districts in Gaziantep resulted in the total installed power to increase from 378,432 kVA -before the earthquake- to 447,127 kVA after the earthquake, the length of the medium voltage line increased from 1,286 km -before the earthquake- to reach 1,347 km after the earthquake, and the length of the low voltage line increased from 1,406 km -before the earthquake- to 1,483 km, completely meeting the electricity consumption requirement in the region.

Efforts to supply uninterrupted energy both in summer and winter

In addition to the financial damages endured due to the earthquake, Toroslar EDAŞ fulfilled the requirement to re-supply energy to meet the urgent heating need in the region as the earthquake hit the region in the winter, and then survived the record-breaking load on the grids due to the increased energy consumption in the hottest summer of recent years due to the A/C use.

Toroslar EDAŞ swiftly responded and met the energy requirements of the container cities established to meet the sheltering needs in the region after the earthquake. Energy requirements of 229 container cities in Hatay and 21 container cities in Gaziantep were fulfilled by an installed capacity of 450 MW and 46 MW, respectively.

Grid investments -up to the panels where the jurisdiction of the electricity distribution company in the network ends- were completed at a great pace. The interior electrical installations within tent and container cities after these panels were carried out by the relevant authorities under the coordination of public institutions.

On the other hand, the outdoor lighting of these areas was provided in a short period of time by installing poles and fixtures with the efforts of Toroslar EDAŞ teams.

Warnings made regarding interior installations outside the jurisdiction of the distribution company

Toroslar EDAŞ teams worked devotedly to ensure energy supply security in their jurisdictions -up to the panels- in the container cities, however, they also regularly informed the authorities in the container cities regarding the measures to be taken in the interior electrical installations after the panel although these installations were outside the jurisdiction of the company.

The enormous demand due to devices such as electric heaters and heat pumps to provide heating to the survivors of the earthquake living in containers during the winter season, caused transformers to be overloaded. So, these transformers were replaced with high-capacity ones and new poles were erected to make energy-supplying conductors to endure the high demand.

Thus, all resources have been mobilized to ensure that people living in containers were affected by the cold winter conditions as little as possible.

Over 6,000 scheduled cuts for demolition upon the request of AFAD

While the efforts in the earthquake zone was ongoing with mandatory scheduled cuts due to the health and safety of field workers, power cuts were also requested by AFAD during the demolition works carried out for damaged structures in the region.

The number of such scheduled cuts reached 3,311 in Hatay and 6,105 in the overall Taurus region in the past one year.

On the other hand, unplanned power outages that occurred due to damage to the electricity distribution network as a result of uncontrolled demolitions and unauthorized third-party interventions were resolved as soon as possible.

Psychological support to more than 1100 employees in the past year

While Toroslar EDAŞ continued its efforts to supply uninterrupted and high-quality energy in Hatay and Gaziantep, cities within its area of responsibility, despite the severe effects of the earthquake and challenging conditions due after the earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023, the Company also did everything in its power for its employees and their families survived from the earthquake.

Since the first day of the earthquake, psychological support has been provided by professionals in adult, adolescent, and child psychology to the employees of Enerjisa Distribution Companies working in Hatay and Gaziantep and their families to protect them from the severe effects of the earthquake.

Seminars on psychological first aid were held with the participation of more than 1100 employees. Various events and games were organized in a total of 37 sessions held in Iskenderun and Antakya. While 261 employees have been provided online psychological training, over 200 therapy sessions were held.

Regarding the restoring and restructuring investments in Hatay and the efforts put in the past one year, Oğuzhan Özsürekci, General Manager at Enerjisa Distribution Companies, stated:

Enerjisa Distribution Companies, which provide electricity distribution services to approximately a quarter of total population in Türkiye with the regions of Başkent EDAŞ, Ayedaş and Toroslar EDAŞ, breaks another new ground and initiates the EV fleet period in electricity distribution services

Enerjisa Distribution Companies, the leader of the electricity distribution industry in Türkiye, commissioned an EV fleet consisting of 160 EVs to be used in the field works of Başkent EDAŞ, Ayedaş and Toroslar EDAŞ which provide electricity distribution services for a population of over 22 million in 14 provinces.

Accelerating the EV transformation in their fleet with the purpose of reducing fossil fuel consumption in line with sustainable environmental goals, Enerjisa Distribution Companies included over 80 hybrid cars to their inventory, in addition to the EVs in passenger cars and light commercial vehicles segments.

Enerjisa Distribution Companies have also set future goals based on their Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) Strategy as they initiated EV transformation in their fleet and made these vehicles a part of their operations for activities including maintenance, index reading and fault repair processes.

The goal for 2025 is 25 percent for EVs

Accordingly, the number of EVs in the fleet will rise to 500 with the goal to save approximately 868 tons of emissions in 2024. Currently, the number of EVs operated actively in the fleet will constitute 12 percent of the total number of vehicles.

Enerjisa Distribution Companies, which will increase the number of EVs in their fleet to 1000 in line with 2025 goals, thus have the purpose of increasing the share of EVs in the fleet to approximately 25 percent.

Having a quarter of the fleet electric, the goal of the company is to save approximately 2,265 tons of emissions in 2025 and to reduce fossil fuel consumption by 14 percent.

Acting with its pioneering technologies in the sector and environmental focus, the Fire Prevention Project with a budget worth TL 12.8 million has been realized for the power poles located in the Toroslar EDAŞ’s responsibility site in the forest areas which carry the risk of fire.

Toroslar Elektrik Dağıtım Anonim Şirketi (Toroslar EDAŞ) continues with its projects and investments centering on digitalization in Adana, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Mersin and Osmaniye and brings to life new projects to protect the forests in the region.

The Fire Prevention Project has been brought to life as part of this, covering forest areas with high temperatures which carry the risk of fire.  The project aims to minimize fire risk due to arcs that may occur on disconnector fuses in the areas which carry fire risk.

In line with this aim, stone chips or lean concrete materials are being laid down in an area with 10 cm of thickness and 3 meters of radius under the poles which include this type of disconnectors. Thanks to this process, a safe area is being created between the power poles and dry weeds, tree branches, pinecones and trees which would prevent occurrence and dissemination of flames.

Fire Prevention Facilities increase

Continuing its activities by focusing on people, solutions and innovation and pioneering in the sector by shaping the changing and developing dynamics of the sector,

Toroslar EDAŞ forced the pace of the project in 2023 which is being implemented in 6 provinces under the responsibility of the company.

Areas with fire risk and the poles in these areas which include disconnectors were determined by Toroslar EDAŞ teams in June.

The project aims to implement Fire Prevention measures on approximately 800 poles with disconnector fuses located in the forest areas by the middle of 2024 with a budget of TL 12.8 million and to minimize fire risk, and the work has been completed on 180 poles to date using TL 2,880,000 of the budget.

Toroslar EDAŞ field teams and System Operation Directorate work together in the project which is being brought to life to take measures against fire disasters that may occur in the region as well as providing continuous supply for increasing energy demand.

Welcoming millions of migratory birds every year in Hatay, Adana and Mersin where global bird migration routes intersect, Toroslar EDAŞ sustains its collaboration with the Doğa Derneği (Nature Association) in order to protect all birds that we share the skies with our overhead lines.

Thanks to the collaboration, the company completed the insulation works for 18,727 meters of conductors and 7,638 insulators that could lead to bird mortality due to electrocution, particularly over the migration routes.

Pioneering the sector with its “High Voltage Overhead Lines Insulation Project” which was initiated in 2017, Toroslar EDAŞ has minimized the risk of electrocution due to the power transmission lines where birds can land on and prevented related power failures in the region.

• Precautions reduce power failures as well

Toroslar EDAŞ has successfully reduced bird injuries due to electrocution and related power failures in 6 provinces by 88.62 percent since 2017.

Provinces with the highest failure improvement rate were Kilis with 98.36 percent, Gaziantep with 95.24 and Adana with 94.45 percent, followed by Hatay with 88.46 percent, Mersin with 88.21 percent and Osmaniye with 46.67 percent.

Continuing to keep the required insulating materials in its inventory for the migratory birds, Toroslar EDAŞ regularly carries out maintenance works and installation of these insulation materials on new lines to be installed.
